Marissa McDermott graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2000. While there, she worked in the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic, getting hands-on experience in family law and landlord/tenant disputes. As a student, she also interned in New York City for the nation’s 5th largest law firm, working in their Intellectual Property division.
After graduating from law school, she worked for several Northwest Indiana firms, representing insurance companies and their clients. Through this, she gained valuable experience in personal injury law, employment law, and business litigation. Marissa was then appointed a Lake County Public Defender, where she continues to represent indigent clients in Lake County criminal justice system.
For the past six years, Marissa has taught as an adjunct professor at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, teaching Business Law and Employment Law. This position has kept her on the cutting edge of emerging legal issues. Teaching at the university level also developed her ability to explain complex legal ideas in an understandable, straightforward matter.
In her private practice, Marissa is able to offer broad legal expertise in many fields, primarily employment law, criminal defense, and accident law. Her clients enjoy personal attention to their matters and prompt responses to their questions.
